Dan Frischman is an actor, comedian, writer, director and magician. Born in Whippany, New Jersey, he is best known for his roles as TV’s first nerd ,Arvid Engen, on the ABC sitcom Head of the Class, and Chris Potter on the Nickelodeon sitcom Kenan & Kel.
Dan is also a member of The Magic Castle and belongs to the Academy of Magic Arts in Hollywood. As a precursor to his television career, he worked as a teenaged magician in New Jersey under the pseudonym, “The Great Houdanny.”
Dan was first noticed in 1982 in an episode of the NBC television series The Facts of Life, and later in the comedy film Get Crazy.
Frischman’s first co-starring role was that of Arvid Engen on ABC-TV’s very successful series Head of the Class, which aired in the late 80’s and early 90s. His character, Arvid, was a ‘nerd’ who was an early connoisseur of computer culture as well as a budding scientist.
Dan’s second co-starring role was the character of Chris Potter in the long-running 1990s Nickelodeon TV series Kenan & Kel, a spin-off of Nickelodeon’s All That.
An author, Dan has written a book, “Jackson & Jenks: Master Magicians”, and had a play produced to rave reviews, “Sex, Faith & Jason Wexler.”
In late 2020, the lifelong bachelor, Dan, was given a tremendous gift when he discovered he had a daughter AND a granddaughter that he never knew about. They bonded and Dan had an instant family. It is a touching and heartwarming story of unification you won’t want to miss.
