Another year is coming to an end. Sadly, the older I get, the faster the years seem to fly by.
Funny…when young, the years didn’t go by fast enough. I always looked forward to getting older. First came the time when I couldn’t wait to be a teenager. Then, after turning 13, I was dying to get into high school. Those high school years are the days that I still cherish.
As for my college years, they were strange. The first two years seemed to drag. Then, all of a sudden, I was a senior – graduating and getting ready to, once again, begin a new segment of my life.
My twenties were a great learning experience for me. They began a bit turbulent, as I married my college sweetheart, which sadly ended very quickly (I was far too young for marriage). However, by my late twenties, I had matured greatly and even owned my own business (a publishing firm). That experience took me into my early 30s, when I transitioned into corporate life on a national scale with a major sporting goods company. And while I thought I had matured in my 20s, it didn’t compare to the maturity that came upon me in my 30s, as I focused on building my new career.
From ages 25 to 39, life rolled along at a steady pace – not too slow and not overly fast. There were good times and bad but, overall, no complaints. I was leading a business life with much success, and traveled extensively seeing much of the world. It was a time that provided me with so many memories, which I enjoy to this day.
Then came the big 4-0.
As I look back, that’s when the years started to roll by. However, I didn’t realize time was flying until all of a sudden, one day, it was my 50th birthday! From then on….wow!
But here’s a hint for when you hit 50…don’t dwell on it and please don’t think you’re old, because soon you will awake and you’ll be 65, wishing you were 50 again!
However, with all that said, my age is no longer a concern for me. I have learned to accept it and, actually, I’ve become very thankful for living a long, full life. Between family, personal relationships, friends, and my career, the years have been very good to me.
So, with a new year upon us, I actually look forward to being another year older. And instead of dwelling on my age, I’ve decided to continue with my interesting life and begin developing new challenges and, hopefully, more wonderful memories…just in case I make it to another decade.
